on going home

Big, limitless world. I have seen so many of your most beautiful nooks and crannies. I will see many more in the years to come. I have always had the travel bug. Nothing seems to give me immunity to it.

But, home. Home, sweet, warm, wonderful, home. You shine with your own beauty.

Tight squeezing never letting go hugs. Melt in your mouth delicious home cooked food. Unfiltered conversation. Long time friends. The heart warming rawness of family. The best berry mojito you can imagine.

The list is endless of places that will take my breath away simply by sheer aesthetics.

But nothing will ever feel as beautiful as home.

Reflections on a Single Valentine’s Day

Yesterday was my first single Valentine’s Day in a while, and to be perfectly honest, it was wonderful. Early in the day I was beautifully reminded of how the day was a celebration of all types of love, not only romantic love:

"Romantic love is wonderful, it’s beautiful, it’s deserving of our attention. But so is platonic love, especially the kind that runs as deep as it often does between best friends. It’s sad that this holiday isn’t as readily used to show how much we love those whom we don’t kiss on the lips, with whom we don’t lie naked in bed. Let’s not forget there are other ways, and other reasons, to show how much we care."

Texts and phone calls trickled in throughout the day from people who really matter to me, and I never once wished I had a man to spend the day with.

I talked to one of my best friends whose wisdom and warmth has been especially comforting in the last few months. I realized in just over a year we will be celebrating ten years of laughter and love.

I spent the evening a very special new friend and we talked about valentines of the past and valentines of the future over champagne and strawberries.

One little valentine made it extra special, I’m still blushing and grinning from ear to ear.

I hope you got to celebrate all the love in your life.

on moving on

"You went away.

How dare you.

I miss you.”

-Miranda Lambert

It’s been six months. Am I going crazy?

Why does every day have to begin and end the same way?

Will I ever stop thinking about him? Will I ever move forward?

How do you continue the healing process when it feels like it should be over? Everyone says that time heals all wounds, but sometimes I think healing knows nothing of time. There are too many components to determine whether you should be over it by now or not. It will take time to form new memories in all the places and moments and emotions from that time. No one is allowed to tell you how many days or weeks or months it might take to rebuild. Even your own mind.

One day, no matter how far away, you will wake up and realize that the day started with a thought that wasn’t old love. And you’ll feel a little glimmer of hope in your heart that progress is coming, no matter how slow.

"We’re all waiting on a dream that’s hard to own.

Trying to feel the high without the low.”

-Mat Kearney

This past weekend I saw the remake of Footloose with a fabulous girlfriend.  Although there were a few cheesy scenes, the movie was overall worthwhile.  There are some great dance scenes, and the soundtrack tickled my ears.  Here is one of my favorites.

I know this video has circulated the internet quite a bit recently, but I couldn’t resist posting it.  It gives me goosebumps. Amazing.

Today was quite the lazy afternoon. My sister and I went downtown and got coffee and looked around some of the cute little boutiques and I spent the rest of the afternoon sipping on sweet tea and reading my new book.  But sometimes it’s the little sparkles that make life so great.
Some things you might enjoy:
My new read
A fabulous cover to a classic favorite song
Something incredible to one day attempt

Dreaming of Summer

It’s April 18. Three days ago it snowed, and there is snow in the forecast for this week. Summer, my absolute favorite season, seems so far away.  I would give anything to be wherever this picture was taken. But until warm, sunny days are here to stay, I’ll just listen to my favorite summer songs:

New Kid On the Block

Phil Vassar

Kenny Chesney

Keith Urban

Jessie James

There are so many more, but I can’t give all my secrets away! Enjoy!
